Depression can be either situational or biochemical. However, whatever the underlying etiology we work together to help the client understand the depression and examine the impact on their life. If necessary and with the client's approval we might meet with them and family members to provide psychoeducation about depression as it affects the family system. We use diverse psychotherapeutic interventions to help them with their depression and work in concert with their medical provider. If they have experienced trauma in their lives we do trauma work and utilize interventions such as EMDR.
