As a certified child centered play therapist, I am trained and enjoy working with children ages 3 and up. Using play therapy for children is like talk therapy for adults.. it is the best way children have to communicate their struggles and work through their feelings. A critical part of working with children is keeping communication going with you, the parent. Part of my treatment approach includes regularly scheduled consultations with you. I have designated play therapy space at my Syracuse and Rome offices, and look forward to talking with you about your child.

The most malleable of us all. Therefore, that segment of our society that can be most easily molded, sculpted. Since the sculptist is almost always the parents their cooperation in the therapy process cannot be emphasized enough. They are makers or breakers of it. That is why the creation of a trusting alliance with them is critical. However, respecting the boundaries and confidentiality too of the child's work (therapy) with myself. The child is allowed to express, within reason, their individuality. Encouragement is given for adaptive risk-taking and self-soothing mechanisms. I create, a safe, predictable, environment.

I support young children, parents, and families in individual and relational play therapy. In our initial parent intake session, you will have the opportunity to share your concerns or observations and the goals you have for your child's treatment. In non-directive play therapy, I create a safe space for children to process difficult experiences, build emotional regulation, and grow their experience of mastery and self-esteem. All through their natural developmental and age-appropriate language- play. Along the way, I meet with parents for regular consult sessions to discuss your child's progress, treatment plan, and coordinating their care.

I offer counseling typically to children 12+ If the child is younger than 12, and needs support for entering middle school, or peer/ social skills with my experience K-12, and graduate school age, please inquire re: need! As a family or with a sibling I would treat younger as well. As always just inquire with more information on how I can assist !

Here at TCC we want the children who come into our practice to feel safe, secure and empowered. We do this by allowing them to dictate their treatment (age appropriate). By following their lead, we support their engagement in their own journey; this makes them feel like therapy is a safe place, allowing them to more easily open up and share their thoughts and feelings. We also feel that it's important to collaborate with the schools and doctors, depending on treatment needs. Lastly, we are willing to meet with the children in various ways, based on their interests and needs, by engaging them in things like play therapy, walking outdoors or playing basketball.
