We work on the the underlying issues of an eating disorder and refer these clients to a nutritionist. We help these clients identify their triggers and substitute the eating disorder behaviors with more healthy adaptive behaviors. We help these clients develop coping skills to manage and communicate their emotions in healthier ways. We help these clients understand where there eating disordered behaviors stem from and what may be getting in the way of positive change.

Recovery from an eating disorder doesn't end when treatment does. The post-treatment phase comes with its own challenges, and having ongoing support can make a real difference in staying well long-term. I work with individuals in the maintenance phase of eating disorder recovery, helping you build a healthier relationship with food & your body, strengthen your self-esteem, & develop coping strategies that hold up when things get hard. Using EMDR, CBT, DBT, & somatic approaches, we'll address the underlying emotional patterns & past experiences that fed the disorder in the first place. An eating disorder is not a lifestyle choice. An eating disorder is a serious and often fatal illnesses that causes serious disturbances to a person’s eating behaviors, physical health, and relationships. Obsessions with food, body weight, and shape may also signal an eating disorder. The sooner someone struggling with this illness, or displaying behaviors and attitudes consistent with these disorders, can get connected to help, the better. Common eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder. As with any illness or psychological disorder, these problems will not go away on their own; without clinical support they often only escalate dangerously.

Over the years I have had a number of clients who suffer from anorexia or bulimia. Generally these are young women who are convinced that their misguided eating habits and distorted view of their body are necessary and "normal." Using a gentle but honest approach, I try to help them see the many ways they are hampering their health and their relationships through maintaining their disorder. In time, if they stick with my program, they work through the internal conflicts that underlie the eating disorder and begin to thrive in their personal and professional lives.
