Families have challenges for a variety of reasons. Sometimes parents struggle with kids because of challenges they experienced growing up. Other times families will struggle due to life changes including death, divorce, or remarriage. Whatever challenges your family might be facing we will work together to understand where they are coming from and develop practical, reasonable ways to start to turn them around.

Family therapy, or family counseling, is a form of psychotherapy that entails working with family members or domestic members to address and resolve conflicts, enhance communication, and strengthen relationships. Family therapy focuses primarily on the dynamics and interactions within the family system, as opposed to the individual members. Family therapy is only effective if all family members are willing to participate and collaborate toward positive change actively. Family therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues, such as communication issues, conflicts, behavioral difficulties, and adjusting to life transitions.

I will work with families that find themselves in a dynamic they are unable to change on their own. I will teach them how family systems work and guide them through the process of reconciliation and redemption. This may be a combination of individual, couples or group sessions. My background in mediation also equips me to facilitate group discussion and foster an environment of trust.

Family systems therapy draws on systems thinking in its view of the family as an emotional unit. When systems thinking—which evaluates the parts of a system in relation to the whole—is applied to families, it suggests behavior is both often informed by and inseparable from the functioning of one’s family of origin.
