When clients come to me suffering from grief and loss they all want to know the same thing: "How long will this last?" Unfortunately, there is no way to speed up the grieving process but there are many things we can do to slow it down or put it on hold. No one wants to do that. Nobody wants to grieve longer than necessary. It is my job as a clinician to provide a safe, accepting, compassionate environment for clients to talk about and feel the loss so they can begin to put the pieces back together and start to move forward. I am sincerely sorry you are suffering. When you lose someone, or something, important, it can be so very painful. I have a very high level of training in helping people with these sorts of pains. Loss can be from the loss of a loved one through illness or death. Loss can also be associated with a change in life situation; for example a divorce or separation, a loss of a job or career, or a loss associated with change in life due to a decline in physical or mental functioning. These life changing events often become a time to reflect upon the overall meaning in life. It is a time that many people turn toward spiritual beliefs that comfort them and encourage them through these difficult times. This is an area that I will explore with you. If spirituality is not a part of your life experience I will look for beliefs that can sustain and support you through your specific crisis.
