Often I have found that it is typically being overwhelmed by lifes challenges and uncertainties which then leads to apathy. Other times it is a event like the loss of of job, a loved one, marital difficulties or even just a biological issues. The first goal, then in therapy, is to assess the underlying cause. Once this is accomplished, it is then possible to look for solutions that are tailored to the individual's specific needs so that time is not wasted in pursuing goals.
