I offer counseling for various addictive behaviors. Addictions may include alcohol, drugs, nicotine, pornography, gambling, eating, shopping, hoarding, or relationships (co-dependency. I help clients gain insight into possible causes of their addictive behaviors. Then, a major focus becomes replacing those behaviors with a more positive, healthy lifesyle. I recommend that the client develop a positive support system of people or groups that can enhance their recovery, such as a person abusing alcohol to maintain regular, involved participation in AA. Someone with a porn addiction may first need to put a filter on the computer, and also have a trusted person to be accountable to.

My role, if you are an addict, is to meet you wherever you are in the process and help you take the next step to recovery. I believe psychotherapy can be an excellent addition to the support you may already be receiving from a recovery group such as a 12-step or outpatient intensive therapy group. I use a cognitive behavioral approach to help you change the patterns of thinking that result in your turning to your drug of choice, whether it be alcohol, drugs, sex, relationships, or even shopping.
