My goal isn't just to connect to the child, but to connect the parent(s) to the child. We will work on emotions identification and connecting deeply with everyone in therapy. I utilize exercises involving active listening, reflection, and age-appropriate expression. In early years, this is done through play, and then gradually transitions to verbal expression.

Our certified educational therapist provides preventative services to children (5-7 years old) at risk of developing learning disorders (dyscalculia, dyslexia, dysgraphia, etc.) through early intervention using the SEARCH and TEACH programs. SEARCH is the scanning tool that assesses for learning struggles/differences. TEACH is an individualized therapy program based on the SEARCH findings. The SEARCH and TEACH program can identify any vulnerabilities that would lead to a later disability in reading. Once identified, the TEACH therapy specifically targets the areas of weaknesses to make them stronger. Once these rebuilt foundations for learning are in place, the child is able to move forward.

Young children learn and grow through play. I incorporate games, art, music, puppets, etc to help the children express themselves. Children don't have the language skills adults possess--they often express themselves through storytelling and pictures--building a trusting relationship with the child is the first step toward making them feel comfortable enough to share their story with me.
