Over the years I've developed a style of psychotherapy I call Metaphorical Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. When called for, I employ story telling, comedy, and in many cases poetry and music. I've found that many people, especially adolescents and sufferers of PTSD respond well to this because, although challenging, it maintains an environment of safety and security. Frequently the metaphorical aspects of the sessions seem to reach people who have been resistant to other styles of counseling.

I practice from a family systems perspective, which means we look at the individual in the context of their most important relationships. Though family members may not be present, we all have important people in our lives, and it is important to deal with them in forgiving, assertive ways with good boundaries. Cognitive behavioral therapy deals with our thoughts and subsequent actions, and generally feelings improve when our thoughts and actions are healthier. Progress can be made toward a more satisfying life through therapy.
