My background in Christian studies spans almost 18 years including college studies that required understanding of multiple Christian religions. In understanding Biblical fundamentals on how to relate to religion, relationships, and the management of self I am able to understand and discuss the challenges that society today places on the life of a practicing Christian.

Like most counselors, I recognize personal problems can come about because of physiology, social-environmental influences, and psychological pressures. As a Christian counselor, I am not limited to psychological techniques or to my own human efforts and wisdom. I believe God is the real authority in counseling and He gives us the resources to change. I believe that counseling without Our Creator is operating in vanity and ineffective. My counseling goal is to advocate forgiveness from the past, strength and comfort for the present, and hope for the future. I am sensitive to the many dilemmas we face, and I am trained to identify and assist in navigating through the process of healing.

Change is hard. Our brokenness runs deeper in us than we wish, but so does our capacity for growth and change. My Christian perspective gives me a helpful frame for grappling with and understanding this tension: It gives me great compassion for how challenging it can be (due to our brokenness) to grow and change, and it also gives me great hope for each person's innate ability to change (because of God's protecting within us the capacity for healing). Several of our counselors are Christian. Our job is not to talk about our faith, but to help you figure out the role it plays in your life. Since I have a Masters, Doctorate, and A Doctor of Divinity in the Theology field and then a Ph.D I use these insights to your advantage. Also I rely heavily on prayer and praying with you at each session. I have developed these fields so I can understand what and how you believe and how it is effecting you and others. A very large part of one's life is spiritual. We may choose to hide from this fact, but the truth is the truth. I do not see my role as changing your values, but may suggest in an area of some other ways to consider. After all, how and what we think is the way we act out our lives.
