Like most counselors, I recognize personal problems can come about because of physiology, social-environmental influences, and psychological pressures. As a Christian counselor, I am not limited to psychological techniques or to my own human efforts and wisdom. I believe God is the real authority in counseling and He gives us the resources to change. I believe that counseling without Our Creator is operating in vanity and ineffective. My counseling goal is to advocate forgiveness from the past, strength and comfort for the present, and hope for the future. I am sensitive to the many dilemmas we face, and I am trained to identify and assist in navigating through the process of healing.

While most Christian Counselors pride themselves on how many Scriptural passages they can recite and how many links they can make from the Bible to psychological disorders, the Christian-centric work of Grey Matters International, Inc.is grounded in one principle: truth. As a Christian, I can work with you on your life issues through the lens of your relationship to God and Christ. I truly feel that my personal spiritual beliefs in no way hinder me from working with any client; on the contrary, I know that my spirituality is a key component of who I am as a person and thus as a therapist. Faith is such a huge part of a person and often times people feel like they are asked to divorce their spiritual health from their mental health. From my perspective this is not possible. While I am not here to replace your form of spiritual guidance, I am here to help you integrate your faith into who you are as a person. Whether it is addressing trauma's experienced as a result of people from our faith, or finding ways to more fully embrace our faith for healing, I am here to help you see how fulfilling faith can be when we allow all parts of ourselves to interact with it.

Change is hard. Our brokenness runs deeper in us than we wish, but so does our capacity for growth and change. My Christian perspective gives me a helpful frame for grappling with and understanding this tension: It gives me great compassion for how challenging it can be (due to our brokenness) to grow and change, and it also gives me great hope for each person's innate ability to change (because of God's protecting within us the capacity for healing). I would be honored to help you deepen your faith as you wrestle with God, your brokenness and your untapped capacity for change. And in so doing help you to become more whole, more free, more the person God created you to be.

Since I have a Masters, Doctorate, and A Doctor of Divinity in the Theology field and then a Ph.D I use these insights to your advantage. Also I rely heavily on prayer and praying with you at each session. I have developed these fields so I can understand what and how you believe and how it is effecting you and others. A very large part of one's life is spiritual. We may choose to hide from this fact, but the truth is the truth. I do not see my role as changing your values, but may suggest in an area of some other ways to consider. After all, how and what we think is the way we act out our lives. I have worked with most all different religions and understand theire process.

There are many benefits to seeing a Christian Counselor. Christians have found that Christian counseling is more consistent with their beliefs than secular counseling. Working with a Christian Counselor, there is no need to explain the nuances of your faith. A Christian counselor understands the power of prayer and the active presence of the Holy Spirit. Christian counseling ministers to the whole person, spirit, soul, and body.

Faith does not shield us from life’s challenges. Even as Christians, we may face seasons of emotional struggle, illness, grief, or relationship pain. My goal in Christian counseling is to walk with you through these difficulties in a way that strengthens your faith and reminds you of the hope and purpose God has for your life. While following Christ in today’s world can feel overwhelming at times, I believe that God always provides a path forward. Together, we can seek healing, peace, and restoration through both sound therapeutic practice and the sustaining truth of God’s Word.

I spent three years in seminary, one at the undergraduate level and two at the graduate level. The latter two years were spent in Rome, Italy studying at the Gregorian University, a Jesuit institution. In my practice I welcome my clients to share their spiritual concerns (or not, as they please) as we collaborate to reaching measurable wellness goals. I welcome clients of all spiritual perspectives and persuasions to engage in these reflections.
