Hi, my name is Abby Mullen, LCSW. As a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), I have been practicing psychotherapy and counseling in Manhattan and Westchester over the last decade. In this time I have had the opportunity to help people navigate challenges and create positive change. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard as an individual and safe to explore your thoughts, while gaining tools and insights to set and achieve your own goals. Some of my clients’ concerns have included learning how to steer through the challenges of parenting, relationships, career choices, college, and physical health.
I received  my Masters of Science in Social Work from Columbia University in 2007.  From there I gained my clinical training at NYU Langone Medical Center.  I am passionate about the study and implementation of solution focused therapies and have training in cognitive behavioral, mindfulness, action commitment, solution focused and motivational therapies.
Life throws significant hurdles and opportunities at us which can create stress and anxiety. Friends and family are invaluable supports, but sometimes you need more. Psychotherapy or counseling can help when you feel stuck or uncertain of what to do next. Acknowledging specific fears, stressors and goals can lead to an empowering stance for change. This change leads to a reduction in feelings of depression and anxiety and therefore a more satisfying and happier life. The clinical expertise and supportive environment in session with me can help you find and achieve the change you want in your life.
So can therapy benefit you?  Of course, as I mentioned above, I work in motivational style therapies.  This means that together we will work to create goals and learn strategies to achieve these goals.  The goals in therapy can be (and usually are) both emotional and life based.  I will help you gain insight into the obstacles you currently see in front of you: anxiety, depression, parenting, navigating life after college or communicating in a relationship (to name a few). At the same time you will learn new coping strategies and skills that will aide you in reaching your relaxed and satisfied self.
I believe each client is an individual, with unique strengths and struggles. Therefore, no session is alike. I will draw upon my training in cognitive behavioral, solution focused, narrative and mindfulness based therapies to help you realize your full potential. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
