Psychotherapy means “healing the mind” whereas Psychology is “studying the mind”.

If repeatable logic fixed people, we wouldn’t need therapists, only proven theories we can read from a scientific text book.

But information doesn’t help anywhere near as much as it’s artful application.

Science may inform psychotherapy, but Psychotherapy is more of an art than a science.

Like all art, its purpose is to change the way you feel.

Just like music, it’s founded on theory, and benefits greatly from practice.

But also just like music, how it moves you is going to be impacted by more than just the notes you hear.

No two musicians are identical and neither are any two psychotherapists.

I’m David Fairweather, and I didn’t become a therapist straight out of school.

It took me 20 years of living the wrong life, before I figured out what career suited me best.

I was drawn to psychotherapy at the dawn of the new millennium, out of significant personal need.

Like a lot of people, I never gave a second thought to therapy until I found myself in conflict with myself, and was unable to break the stalemate.

I was not in love with my life, merely going through the motions.

My body was suffering from chronic tension, chronic fatigue and chronic pain, while my mind was saturating in anxiety, depression and dissatisfaction.

My doctor wasn’t very helpful, offering me pills and potions to ease my body and mind, by masking my symptoms and diverting my attention from the real issues.

Fuelled by a desperate need more than a desire, began my lifelong journey into self improvement.

Along the way I studied psychotherapy, psychology, philosophy, meditation, mindfulness, neuroscience, hypnosis, wellness, consciousness and brainwave biofeedback.

My goal is to become the very best therapist possible for me to be, and every discipline I study or get certified to incorporate into my work, takes me closer to achieving my goal.

I’ve set my sights on being a world class therapist.

From the Milton H Erickson Foundation in Phoenix Arizona, to the Second City improv school in Toronto, I’ve always sought to learn from the best in the world at what they do.

Which is why I understand how important the investment in yourself that you’re looking to make is.

Psychotherapy is an art, and like all great art, it’s been worthy of my investment, and continues to prove its value to me daily.

Only you can know what real self improvement is worth to you.

My patients often remark that our work is more accessible, more meaningful, and more immediately useful than the other therapists they tried out along the way.

We often laugh together, share inspirational stories, and really get into the psychodynamic work of revealing what lurks below the surface, guiding them out of awareness, like a rudder steers a ship out of sight.

We use real language - and we don’t censor reality when we meet.

It’s sometimes confusing, sometimes frustrating, and sometimes very challenging, but you don’t get much out of life by taking the easy route or avoiding the work.

I’ll work hard to make things easy for you, but working harder than you wouldn’t help anyone.

Your life is your ordeal to navigate - and your challenge is yours to conquer.

But having the right guide by your side on your journey, can save you a lot of pain, and a lot of time.

If you think it would be good for you to work with someone like me, get in touch today and let’s talk.
