I believe...

It is essential that you have a good fit with your therapist. If, when you call, you think I might be right for you I will offer you a free face-to-face consultation for you to get a feel for how we might work together. If we are not a good fit I will try to refer you to someone with whom you feel more comfortable and who might meet your needs more perfectly.

My approach...

There are many different approaches to psychotherapy. Certain disorders have been shown to have greater success with particular techniques. I draw upon my own theoretical orientation which is fundamentally psychodynamic and relational. This means that I conceive of psychological issues from the perspective of gaining insight into patterns of behavior which, while they may have served us in the past, now prevent us from moving on to be the best that we can be. However, the methodology used will vary from patient to patient depending upon the presenting issues. Treatment is tailored to meet the particular needs of the individual in therapy. Sometimes this will require behavior management, sometimes working with the persons thought processes (cognitive therapy), sometimes it involves coming to terms with ones emotions and sometimes it will mean interpreting unconscious motivations. If you have any particular questions relating to methodology please feel free to address them with me during the assessment phase. I would love to talk to you and help you find what you are looking for, even if it is not with me. I offer a free initial consult to see if we are a good fit and I operate a sliding scale for those who chose to pay without the aid of insurance.
