For over 20 years, I have worked as an individual and family therapist and counselor helping a variety of clients explore, address, and resolve a complex range of individual and family issues. My specialties include depression, anxiety, addiction, career issues, and anger management. In treating depression, anxiety, or the particular issue you as my client bring to our sessions, I offer an empathic approach, focusing on your immediate need to restore emotional stability, while developing a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and concerns. Using my in-depth training and two decades of experience, I find the most effective mode of therapy for you, and we become partners in the therapeutic process.

Our therapy begins and ends with our relationship. I am an empathic listener, easy to engage with, able to focus on the root causes of your issues, and an effective problem solver. I can use cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-oriented therapy, dynamic psychotherapy, coaching and supportive therapy, and other methods to help you achieve your goals and dreams and improve your enjoyment of life.

The benefits of working with me as your therapist include: feeling understood and validated, being a full partner in the therapeutic process, feeling happier and more fulfilled, achieving a sustainable solution to the issues you bring to me, better relationships with family, friends, and colleagues, improvement in your marriage, effective management of anger, restoring balance of mood, alleviation of anxiety and stress, better performance at work, and an overall sense of greater well being.

I hold a Masters Degree in Social Work from Columbia University (New York, NY). I studied for two years (post-graduate) under renowned master therapists at Westchester Family Institute, where I learned under intense supervision how to work with and treat families and individuals. I have also taken numerous courses and workshops on a wide range of treatment modalities and psychological issues. My professional experience also includes leading multi-family groups and working with patients in rehabilitation for alcohol and drug abuse. In my private practice I have led groups on divorce, career transitions, self-esteem, and PTSD (for first responders). I also have experience with foster care and adoption, as well as community service.

I am confident that I can help you improve your life. Please visit my website, www.joycecolburntherapy.com, where you can contact me to schedule a session and learn more about me and my therapy practice.
