There are many types of issues we all confront in life and when we get stuck it can feel overwhelming. These are some of the things that can come up. I’d love to hear more about what you are dealing with personally, so we can create a path that gets you back on track …

Issues of daily living

There's nothing crazy about feeling like life is a struggle and it's wearing you out! Maybe your work or home life is keeping you up at nights but it seems like everyone has "stress" and you should be able to handle it... Maybe someone in your life is making a lot of demands or someone is having such a hard time, you feel like you shouldn't be complaining…

If you wonder whether there are recurring themes in your life or if there's something you're missing, this is a safe place to explore, where you can find the help and healing you need to move on in a new way and become your own person.

Couple/Relationship Issues
Relationships can be challenging right? If your marriage or relationship isn’t what it could be (or used to be) … if it feels like you’re stuck in a rut together … or have become like roommates … or like enemies … it may feel frustrating, or hopeless … then this is the place to come to start sorting it out. We can all get stuck in patterns that keep us retracing the same steps. It can feel like we keep revisiting the same arguments … and it may start to feel lonelier than it did in the beginning. Even if you have one foot out the door, your relationship may be worth saving... Let's find out.

Trauma/PTSD

We can have raw spots from past trauma that are tricky to handle without help. Life has a way of bringing them to our attention when it's time to take them on. These can be recurring memories from specific events such as accidents, hospitalizations (possibly as a child), natural disasters, combat etc or relationship traumas. When traumas are getting in the way of living and enjoying our lives now, let's find a way to get through them together. They don't have to hold us back.

Addictions and unhealthy behaviours

We may have some unhealthy patterns with alcohol/food/gambling etc that distracts us from underlying feelings that are hard to tackle alone …They are often related to trauma and emotions resulting from difficult relationships. Grief may also be lurking under these behaviours and we definitely deserve help to face these emotional demons.

LGBTQ2

We’re coming a log way with diversity and tolerance but change is still slow and it can be hard to be the one leading the way. Many complications, both individually and in relationships, come up in the fluidity of gender diversity. Let's find ways to overcome them and enjoy our lives.

Spirituality/Christian Counselling

Do you wonder what it’s all about? If the bigger picture is something that calls you and you wonder how to apply Mindfulness, Presence and Love to your life … this is something we can explore.

BENEFITS OF THERAPY:

You can expect that when you take your emotional wellbeing into your own hands, you will find insight and inspiration. You can develop peace of mind by staying with yourself and receiving help to find your own heart’s wisdom. Many confusing symptoms can be resolved once we develop a new relationship with ourselves and our inner knowing.

If it’s a relationship you are struggling with, Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy will help you and your partner to identify how you get stuck. Some patterns lead to disconnection and we call these patterns “demon dialogues” for a reason! Once we know what’s going wrong we know how to change the dance. We can uncover the sources of emotional pain and help you find your way back to each other in a new way. You can have what we all want - a secure relationship with our partner that is accessible, responsive and engaged.

THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES:

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) has become the foundation of my therapeutic approach. It is well researched and evidenced based. It is an experiential way of honouring our feelings as they come up in the present moment, in the context of our struggles. As humans, we are wired to be in relationships with others. When we understand the attachment meaning of our emotions and relationships, we have a road map that leads us through difficult terrain to a place of clarity and health. This approach includes cognitive, psychodynamic and systemic understandings of human behaviour and integrates these approaches into a unified whole. EFT uses the depths of our emotional experience to create solidly attached relationships with our loved ones.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming (EMDR).

This is a treatment for trauma and works especially well with specific traumatic events. It is also well researched and can work quickly to resolve symptoms of PTSD.
