Williamson Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC) is a premier provider of outpatient addiction treatment in Williamson, West Virginia. With individualized therapies and programs for adults age 18 and older, comprehensive medication-assisted treatment (MAT) options, and a welcoming and compassionate treatment environment, there’s no better place to treat an opioid addiction and achieve sobriety.

Williamson CTC uses only the best evidence-based treatment options for helping people who have an opioid addiction. A core part of that is our MAT program, which combines targeted medications and psychotherapies to treat both the physical and psychological aspects of addiction. MAT has decades of research proving its effectiveness and is one of the primary recommendations from trusted government agencies such as the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

There are four primary medications used in MAT, and our treatment team can help you determine which one is right for you. The first is methadone, an opioid agonist that targets the same receptors in the brain as illicit or prescription opioids. Methadone can quickly reverse withdrawal symptoms, help people deal with cravings, and provide a sense of stability. The second and third medications are Suboxone and buprenorphine.

Suboxone is a specific formulation that includes both buprenorphine and a drug called naloxone, but buprenorphine is what truly helps people overcome opioid addiction. Like methadone, buprenorphine targets the opioid receptors but to a much lesser degree than other drugs. In this way, it can reduce or eliminate the physical symptoms of withdrawal or addiction without producing a high or having a great potential for abuse.

Naltrexone, the fourth medication, is an opioid blocker. When you start taking naltrexone, using opioids will no longer produce a euphoric effect. This medication can also substantially lessen drug cravings for some patients. All these medications are paired with effective psychotherapies that help people understand opioid addiction, build strong support networks in recovery, and learn healthy coping mechanisms and skills to last a lifetime.
