The Allius Services team includes both registered clinical counsellors ($140-200/ hr) and counselling student interns ($90/ hr). This is a training site for counselling practicum students who have completed their graduate studies coursework and are now putting their skills into practice under the supervision of a Clinical Supervisor.

All Allius counsellors have significant work experience and training to support young people, parents and complex family situations. All counsellors are trained in acceptance and commitment therapy, attachment and child development principles prior to joining us.

Psychotherapy Models May Include:

Advanced Gottman Couples
Attachment-based models of family therapy (Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Emotion-Focused therapy)
Interpersonal Neurobiology
Play Therapy and Sandtray Therapy
Mindfulness-based therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) and Mindful Self-Compassion.
Trauma interventions such as Accelerated Trauma Resolution (ART); Flash Technique; Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR)

Therapeutic Philosophy of Change

We support people to gain insights about themselves and about others in order to improve clients' intrapersonal and interpersonal connections. We encourage people to examine why the emotions are there and how they may be acting protectively, so we can consciously choose to do something else when they come up.

Anger, anxiety, sadness and all the other challenging emotions are there to tell us something. By understanding our feelings and emotions they can hold less power over us. This can free us up to make different choices about how we react to thoughts and feelings. These behaviour choices must be guided by who we want to be in the world. It is this values-driven approach that really supports long-term change. For us, positive change happens from a combination of knowing ourselves and making active decision to do things differently based on what is most important to us.
