We all know that life is not always easy. Sometimes it can help to talk to someone who understands, and who can help you find a way through life’s challenges. Years ago, I found that the stresses of work and home life, combined with a stubborn refusal to admit I needed help, led me to a place of burnout. A counsellor came alongside me, helping me work though issues and find the strength and resilience I needed to get back into life. It was this experience that led me to become a psychotherapist, and I have been blessed over the years to walk alongside others as they learn to live happier, more fulfilled lives. I have a Master of Arts Degree in Theology: Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy, and am a Registered Psychotherapist with over 8 years’ experience in the field. My approach to counselling is strengths-based, meaning that I will help you discover and use your own strengths and the wisdom gained from your life experiences to find solutions. I have also found that many mental health problems can be related to past events or things others have said to us. The adage, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me” is wrong. Hurtful things said to us may not break our bones, but they hurt us, nonetheless. The good news is that we do not have to carry the consequences of past hurts for the rest of our lives. There is hope.I have been described by clients and peers as caring, warm, empathetic, a good listener, and insightful. It has also been said that I have a calming influence on others, and never seem phased no matter what my clients tell me. I have helped clients with issues such as anxiety, depression, anger, relational conflict, grief, addictions, compulsive behaviours, 2SLGBTQ+ issues, job stress, caregiver stress, and spiritual issues.I know that life is not always easy, but it can still be good. No matter what you are going through, I am convinced that there is a solution to be found and a path to a happier, more successful life where better relationships, self-esteem, self-control, and peace of mind are possible. Let’s figure this out together.
