Meet Dr. Carlos Durana
My passion is helping others to find and enhance their strengths and inner resources, and expand their health and well-being. The desire to help others began early in my life, as I witnessed the suffering of those around me. My work supports my clients in recognizing and releasing inner limiting beliefs, feelings and behaviors. I enjoy assisting others in finding their unique path so that they can get the most out of life, and achieve their goals.
I am licensed as a clinical psychologist and professional counselor, and work with individuals and couples. I have worked in the health field over 30 years.
My caring and holistic approach is founded upon an interest in your personal worth and lovability; it facilitates your own strengths and resources, helping you make changes in your life. Part of my job is to help you uncover your inner resources and potential for growth, and to provide the conditions under which successful counseling can take place.
I believe that healing comes from a willingness to experience and explore our beliefs, our feelings and our behaviors. These three aspects of our being can lead us to happiness and to the fulfillment of our goals, and to alleviate symptoms and suffering. Transforming self-defeating thoughts, feelings and behaviors requires work and commitment. I work in a caring and collaborative relationship with you, and I will do my best to help you in the pursuit and fulfillment of your life, relationship and work goals.
My approach is practical and educational, and it emphasizes ways to help you in everyday life. I use research evidence to guide effective practice, and to choose the therapeutic method that best works for you.
In couples or relationship therapy, I help clients learn skills to understand each other, resolve conflicts, and communicate effectively in order to break negative cycles. The ultimate aim in my couples work is to help you find the love and strength that first brought you together and to enhance intimacy, trust, satisfaction and love, and develop ways of relating that support each other's core identities and life purposes.
I am a proponent of the body-mind connection and of holistic and integrative forms of therapy. I help you enhance the connection between body, mind and emotions, and learn to utilize these additional resources that can lead to healing and wellbeing. I am a clinical psychologist and counselor with over 27 years of experience in dealing with many concerns, and have published research and led
classes in psychoeducation, self-development, intimacy, and other issues.
I am a member of the American Psychological Association and the American Marriage and Family Therapy Association.
