Welcome!

Welcome to Transformational Choices Holistic Therapy & Counseling. We have three locations to serve you in Southeast Michigan; Southfield, Plymouth, Monroe, Chelsea, and Ann Arbor. We are a group of independent therapists that share the same philosophy and share resources, and want to make you feel welcomed and at home in our offices. Scroll through our bio to get to know more about us and some of our therapists and our goals as a counseling office. There is now a "Meet Our Therapists" section at the bottom of this bio!

Why Choose Transformational Choices?

You are a whole person and we believe that you can make your life more positive. We believe in your ability to change for the better. The mind and body are interconnected, impacting one another. Emotional distress can negatively affect our overall health, just as physical illness can directly impact our mental health. From this holistic point of view, we work with clients to create positive change by helping them develop greater balance and overall well-being.

How is Transformational Choices Different?

We approach the therapeutic partnership through the process of change that occurs when we come to understand the affect our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors have on one another. In a safe and non-judgmental environment, we partner with clients to assist them in moving from distress to well-being. We believe that by discovering new and healthier ways of coping, we unlock our potential for greater emotional peace and balance. We help you to find your strengths and then use them to make your life different.

Transformational Choices uses a natural and organic mind / body approach to restoring healthy emotional, behavioral, and cognitive functioning. The client and therapist are partners and work together to discover the choices necessary to reach new goals and break old patterns. Together we will focus on the mind, body, and soul; ultimately working towards a healthier you!

What benefits can I expect at Transformational Choices?

Our goal is to develop a therapeutic partnership with clients that builds on a strengths-based relationship, helping to restore the connection between the body and mind in order to have a more balanced life, and strength the tools and skills needed to reach and actualize higher potential. We provide a variety of helping services and treatment modalities to help clients move forward in life.

Our mission is to support mindful change within individuals and groups. We are proud to offer a diverse array of services, including mental health counseling for individuals, groups, families, children. We work to address relationship issues between couples, within small groups, and in families.

 Meet our Therapists:

Chad Allee, LMSW, MS

Through a therapeutic partnership I approach the process of change through the understanding of our how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors affect one another. In a safe environment I work with my clients to advance from a state of distress to a state of well-being. It is my goal to help my clients develop healthy coping skills that can be used to unlock their potential for emotional peace and balance.

Katie Poplawski, LMSW

I am here to help you when you are in the midst of personal crisis or coping with overwhelming anxiety, sadness, stress, loss, or anger. Life can get difficult and sometimes support from family, friends, and self-help does not work- that is when therapy can be helpful. I work with my clients to discover the underlying causes of their pain and the thoughts and beliefs that perpetuate that pain. The overall goal is to break these patterns and learn skills to increase self compassion, self efficacy, and acceptance. I am passionate about: helping people recover and heal from trauma, loss, or betrayal, helping people mindfully improve disordered eating or weight concerns, helping people manage co-occurring substance abuse, physical health conditions, and behavioral conditions. It is my goal to work with the client to improve their wellbeing by cultivating what is best in themselves and helping them identify what makes their life worth living.

Kathy Stewart, LMSW

I strive to create a mindful, contemplative, and creative approach towards a positive, strengths based form of therapy. My sessions are based on shared respect between the client and clinician and are led by the client. I am committed to working with clients to develop and implement the most effective life enhancing plan of change through a customized promotion of learning and personal growth.

Dawn Harbaugh, LMSW

Sometimes life can be overwhelming and present challenges. Being willing to change is the first step in transforming your life, into a life that you want to participate in. I use a unique, collaborative approach that is designed specifically for each person I meet. I work with people to develop interpersonal skills, emotion regulation, and for the management of symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma history, and grief. I also work with clients to become a full time participant in their own life by learning how to manage the up’s and the down’s through the development of skills that connect with their personal values.

Shannon Bolton, MA, LLPC

One of the most difficult steps in counseling can be scheduling your first appointment. I am glad you are taking this step. In our sessions It is my goal to offer you support in the areas of your life where you may be struggling. Together we will share the expectations of our relationship, set goals, and build a therapeutic, professional relationship.

Stacy Peterson, LMSW
We are all worthy of respect, dignity, and love. We can still suffer. We can still experience shame, guilt, and loss for things that we have done or for things  that have been done to us. With your guidance and my support we can explore these issues so that peace and healing can occur. This journey can be difficult and I hope that we can work together to understand what is occurring, discover resolutions, and end up in a place where you are empowered to make new, healthier choices.
