ABOUT ME: Background and Experience
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Grief Therapist in private practice in Louisville, KY, working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. I am the owner of Innovative Family Therapy a small group counseling practice with multiple therapists that specialize in various areas.
I have been in the counseling field for about 5 years and prior to that I worked in the field of developmental psychology. As a therapist I use a variety of methods to assure I am utilizing the best approach to fit each client’s individual needs. In addition to counseling I am also a skilled artist and love to incorporate a variety of creative techniques such as; painting, drawing, creative writing, music, collaging, and play-therapy into therapy whenever appropriate (especially when working with children and adolescents). Using creative interventions allows for people to feel relaxed and comfortable to access emotions they can’t when using words.
In addition to counseling I have experience as a middle school counselor working with ages 11-14 years old. This provides me with insight into school related issues and interventions to use with children and their parents. Some of these issues include under achievement, low self-esteem, social inappropriateness, anxiety, perfectionism, and behavioral issues. I typically take a solution focused approach when working with parents and children for school related issues.
Prior to becoming a therapist I was a developmental specialist working with people of all ages to improve their overall physical and mental functioning to help them become a more balanced person. I learned to reach these goals using various training and exercises to stimulate sensory integration; including auditory processing skills, visual processing skills, and fine and gross motor skills. I have experience working with people of all ages who have ADD/ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, central auditory processing disorder, traumatic brain injury, and sensory disorders. The knowledge I gained as a developmental specialist provides me with the ability to use a holistic approach in counseling.
- Campbellsville University: Master's of science in counseling specializing in Marriage and Family therapy (2014)
