Hello! I’m Colleen Perry, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of dedicated experience in providing professional counseling to individuals, couples, and families, and can honestly say I wake up each day loving what I do!
I often say that I was a counselor before I was a counselor. As a young teen, I was the loyal friend that listened without judgment, offered more support than advice, and kept confidence. Years later, these character qualities still define me as a therapist.
In 2001, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychologyfollowed by a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology in 2004, both from California Baptist University in Riverside, CA. My journey in the field has been enriched by various roles and experiences, both professional and volunteer, which I consider a blessing.
Early in my college career, I served as a teaching assistant for CBU’s graduate counseling psychology program, where I enjoyed facilitating discussions and preparing future therapists. This role led to my dearest mentor, Dr. Gary Collinsseeing something special in me and encouraged me toaccept a teaching position as an adjunct professor for CBU’s School of Behavioral Sciences from 2007 to 2013, where I provided instruction for various courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. I cherished the opportunity to foster critical thinking and engage students in lively discussions about the exciting field of Marriage and Family Therapy.
In addition to my teaching roles, I have a strong background as a group facilitator, leading process courses and groups on diverse topics including sexual abuse, relationship boundaries, and work-life balance for professionals. I am a firm believer in the transformative power of collaboration with peers and colleagues.
As a therapist, my approach goes beyond merely discussing problems. I emphasize a holistic perspective that integrates body, mind, and spirit. My style is compassionate, non-judgmental, warm, and empathetic, aiming to help those I serve gain the insights necessary for meaningful change and to live their best lives. I view counseling not just as a skill, but as an art form, and I feel truly blessed to be guided by both.
