My name is Debbie Welsh, I am a registered (# 9253) social worker (clinical therapist) who earned her Bachelor of Social Work Degree (BSW) in 2005 at the Okanagan University College and my Master's Degree in Social Work in 2010 at UBC Okanagan.

I have extensive experience in the mental health and addictions field with 10 years direct client experience working with both men and women as a therapist i
n Kelowna and 18 months working for Aventa Addiction Treatment for Women in Calgary, Alberta.

I also have an interest in working directly with childhood trauma along with other areas of trauma, for example, PTSD.
I offer EMDR (eye movement, desensitization and reprocessing) as a highly successful therapeutic technique for treating trauma and PTSD. EMDR helps to remove trauma from the nervous system allowing for re-balancing and deeper healing.

I practice with a solution focused, client-centered, strength based, holistic and cognitive approach. As a clinician I like to identify and focus on client strengths and assets encouraging self-determination and recognizing at all times that the client is the expert of their own life.

I focus on personal growth and integration to help assist clients in achieving and maintaining a healthier more positive state of well being.

Therapies and Modalities Used in Practice

I practice with eclectic therapeutic approaches: cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, solution-focused, motivational interviewing, gestalt therapy,  emotionally focused couple's therapy,  dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness therapy, existential therapy, systems therapy, person-centered therapy, humanistic therapy and talk therapy.
Keep in mind as a therapist I am constantly learning, growing and implementing new techniques and practices to help develop and evolve as an experienced clinician.
