Welcome to my little "cozy comfy couch," available to you from anywhere across VA via Telehealth :).   Grab your comfiest clothes and a cup of coffee.  My in person and virtual office has floor to ceiling plants and two turtles, Megan and Prince Harry.  My name is Jenny Yates and it is very nice to meet you.  I believe healing is a "calling," and I am so glad I answered the call.  I am deeply grateful and honored to be asked to work with so many gentle, unique individuals on their healing journeys over past two decades.  My ultimate goal is to provide excellent clinical care and develop strong long-term relationships with my "client family."  I have been a healer all of my life, as I learned at a very early age, helping others makes my heart happy.  I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) for 20+ years.   A South Carolina native and USC "Gamecock" graduate, I have been living in Martinsville/ Henry County, a beautiful, southwest, rural VA community, for 25 years.  I am a very proud and humble mom to 2 teens, who are my greatest joy. I recently started a new chapter in my 50s as a divorced single mother and learn something "new" about myself every day.  My 20+ clinical career includes working as an Advocate for people with disabilities;  a Women's Advocate within our local judicial system, through our women's shelter;   a Strategically trained in-home Family Therapist for at risk youth and their families, and a Emergency Services and Outpatient Counselor for my local community services board.   As a life long community volunteer, neighbors will often see me working at local food backs and serving at an annual Christmas dinner during the holidays.  After our area was devastated by the loss of two young teens to suicide during Thanksgiving week in 2020, at the peak of social isolation and virtual learning, I decided I needed (and had) to do more.  After graduating from our local chambers "StartUp" class for first time entrepreneurs, I officially launched my own small business and private practice, Four Rivers Counseling (4RC) Inc., 3 years ago.  4RC's mission is to offer excellent outpatient hybrid clinical services, specializing in supporting women, children, tweens and teens.  One year after launching,  I started a non-profit, the Four Rivers Scholarships Fund, to help teens and families with very expensive copays and reduce barriers to much needed counseling.  4RC's Scholarships Fund is built on a grassroots effort in our community (eg, soup fundraisers, T-shirt sales, Mental Health walks, etc) to help our youth clients that cannot afford expensive copays, as well as provide multiple, collaborative community based workshops throughout the year (at little to no cost) addressing mental health awareness and suicide prevention.  As a long term dedicated neighbor and community activist, I pride myself on collaborating with other grass roots organizations, businesses, and non-profits to help heal our rural, agricultural Southwest VA area, one neighbor at a time.  Clinically, I am fiercely dedicated to providing excellent, hybrid in person or virtual (telehealth) outpatient services, across VA, that are inclusive, progressive, collaborative, and individualized, for each unique client.  I enjoy in person and telehealth.  During COVID, I provided outpatient services via Telehealth for Betterhelp and MySpectrum Counseling & Coaching with great success.  My success rates are based on positive reviews that can be viewed on my website, fourriverscounseling.org.  I also receive  a lower than average rate of Late Cancellations/No-Shows.  I enjoy higher client retention rates because I work hard at meeting clients where they are beginning in session one, with my goal being helping that unique client feel even 1% better, by the end of our initial visit.  I strive daily to develop strong and balanced relationships with my clients that promote each clients growth on their short or long term journey with me.  I greatly enjoy working with all walks of life, but specialize in healing women, children, tweens and teens.  I am a Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional (CATP) and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP).   Clinically, I deeply enjoy utilizing evidenced-based, inclusive, and trauma-sensitive outpatient counseling services, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for Adults and Adolescents, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Nature Therapy, and Somatic (body) Therapies, such as mindfulness, guided meditations and breathwork.  I am also Certified in Emotional Eating/Chronic Dieting/Binge Eating/Restrictive Eating/Body Image Approaches.  I am a LGBTQ+ and BIPOC Ally.  I am also a Sex-Positive therapist, including Polyamorous/Open/Non-monogomous relationships.  After COVID, the role of Spirituality as a powerful healing path, led to the launch of my "sister" holistic healing (non-counseling) practice, Four Rivers Holistic (4RH), LLC, in March 21, 2024.  4RH supports emotionally and mentally strong individuals on their own unique, self-healing journey through Spiritual Life Coaching, Intuitive Counseling, Intuitive Energy Healing, and more.  In reflection, as I shared earlier in my introduction, I am a human first and hope my healing work will be part of my legacy.  Like you, I am on my own healing journey and strive to be better for myself, and for future generations.  I deeply believe in our individual and collective power to heal -- ourselves and each other.  As we bravely heal, we inspire others to do the same.  Healing helps create internal and environmental safety, which creates lasting change and greater contentment.  But just for this moment, my hope is that you have felt a little encouraged reading about my little "cozy couch" approach:).  If you have enjoyed reading my intro and would like to reach out to me to learn more, I would love to hear from you.  But, if you are not quite ready, that's ok too, take your time...each journey starts with the first step, so the story goes.   As always, I wish you very well on your unique healing journey and greatly look forward to hopefully crossing paths again soon.  Feel free to visit my little neck of the woods again soon, and reach out any time.  Jenny
