Julie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (KY license 3344) and has been licensed to practice since 2009, when she started private practice. She has worked in the behavioral health field since 1998, starting out during her college years in a behavioral health hospital with dual diagnosis (mental illness and substance abuse) treatment. She has 12 years’ post graduate experience in counseling and therapy. Her work experience includes adults, adolescent and couples counseling. She received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Louisville in 2000 and her Master of Science in Social Work from the Kent School of Social Work at the University of Louisville in 2004.
Julie’s specialty is working with adults/adolescents/couples who are effected by mood disorders, anxiety, PTSD, grief/loss, communication issues, impulsive behaviors, personality disorders and chronic medical issues. Julie’s approaches to the therapeutic process include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, DBT skills coaching, Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing. Julie’s approach to couples counseling is to improve communication, re-establish trust, and fair arguing techniques.
Julie understands grief, life transitions, life changes from personal experience as well as in practice. Julie helps her clients rediscover hope by walking with them through challenging times. Julie provides a safe, confidential and welcoming space for expression emotions, reflection, discovery of new coping skills and inner strength. The benefits of therapy are improved self esteem, feeling calmer and developing coping skills. Julie hopes to bring a sense of peace, understanding and encouragement to those she serves.
