I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BCACC. I have experience working with many clients facing a variety challenges including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, addiction, anger, trauma, interpersonal conflict, and grief and loss. I also work with many couples helping them to improve communication and intimacy after ruptures in the relationship or communication breakdowns. I am passionate about helping my clients achieve their goals and learn new ways of coping in order to effectively deal with the many challenges that life can present.

I use a variety of treatment modalities in order to help my clients reach their goals. I primarily draw from client-centered, cognitive-behavioral therapy, Adlerian Psychology, and EMDR. In addition to providing a nonjudgemental and empathetic environment, I will provide practical and concrete strategies that you can implement in your daily life to help problem-solve, cope, and change the patterns that may be holding you back.

My experience counselling survivors of trauma and abuse in an agency setting has provided me with a strong foundation in working with those who have experienced trauma. Trauma can be caused by any event that overwhelms our system or multiple distressing events that wear down our internal resources. Trauma can negatively impact our lives in many ways and can take a toll on our relationships, self-esteem, ability to engage in daily activities, ability to emotionally regulate, and feelings of safety. There are ways to resolve past trauma and live a more fulfilling life.

This work has also allowed me to have a deeper understanding of the difficulties that we may face when it comes to relationship and family issues. Tools such as understanding boundaries, assertiveness, and communication can help us navigate through interpersonal conflict. Understanding our patterns, core beliefs, and triggers can help us make different choices in the future.

I believe that each person is the expert in his or her own life. I believe in taking a collaborative approach providing support and guidance in order for my clients to move towards healing and growth.  I am truly invested in my clients' well-being.

I am trained in EMDR which has been shown to be very effective in treating a variety of issues such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, anger, addiction, chronic pain, and phobias. EMDR is an approach to counselling that uses bilateral stimulation to process events that have remained unprocessed or "frozen" in the nervous system.  Many current behaviours stem from past unresolved events.  EMDR can be a good alternative to talk therapy. Together we can decide whether this approach to counselling is right for you.
