My name is Matthew Kijak, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in-person and online in California. With a Master's degree in Social Work and experience working in various settings, I am qualified to help individuals with a range of challenges such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, and men's issues. My therapeutic style is centered around empathy and evidence-based practices. My aim is to help you alleviate worry, anxiety, depression, anger, and negative thoughts to awaken and reinvigorate the best parts of yourself again.
One thing that sets my practice apart is my ability to use ketamine assisted psychotherapy. I offer a therapeutic modality called Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in partnership with an organization called Journey Clinical. Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible patients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms.
My approach to therapy draws on the wisdom of both Eastern and Western philosophy, blending cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and ancient stoic practices to help clients understand and transcend the difficulties that are holding them back. Together, we will explore the hidden depths of your being, discovering your own unique strengths and experiences, and using them to chart a course towards well-being. I also incorporate eastern mindfulness practices that can help with anxiety for some clients.
In the early stages of treatment, we will explore some of the initial reasons you are seeking help and together will identify important goals to work toward in our sessions. During treatment we may explore the root causes of behavior, identify solutions to current problems, process trauma, enhance interpersonal relationships and build healthy coping skills such as mindfulness meditation. My aim is to help you alleviate your current pain and become more aware of your feelings, patterns of behavior, and relationship to yourself and others to address some of the goals that we will have identified in the beginning of treatment.
I strongly believe that the first step towards growth is acceptance; therefore, I aim to create a non-judgmental space, one that views many "symptoms" as coping mechanisms that made sense at some point but have since outgrown their usefulness. Therapy should be a space where we feel comfortable to be honest with another human being about the most vulnerable parts of ourselves in a safe way. When we can view ourselves with compassion, we can then challenge ourselves to examine thought and behavior patterns that may be keeping us stuck and learn to move beyond them. An important part of this work is getting in touch with our core values and finding ways to remain in alignment with them as we move towards our goals.
Suffering is unfortunately part of the human condition for most of us, so I encourage you to be patient with yourself during the process of finding and working with a therapist. From first-hand experience, I know it's not always easy! Working on yourself is tender, it's holy ground and there is no greater investment you can make than yourself.
