Do I need a counsellor?

Have you hit a wall? Are feelings of helplessness, loneliness, anxiety or sadness overwhelming you? Do you feel terrible about yourself? Have relationships left you feeling raw, empty, used or under-appreciated? Perhaps you have even wondered if your partner/parent/boss or child is a narcissist. You are hurting and your wounds feel deep.

I am here to help.

I help people with relationship trauma, anxiety and depression. You may feel completely alone and that's there's no-one who can understand what's going on for you, or help you find a way to a better life. You are not alone and you don't need to be perfect or fix everything yourself, by yourself.
There are many reasons why we might be feeling so low, and experiencing life so painfully. Thankfully, counselling has many tools and techniques that can help clear your thoughts, bring understanding and self-awareness to your problems and explore solutions for turning things around in your life.
I became a therapist, like so many therapists, because I’ve had my own struggles and needed to understand and learn how to get well and stay well. I have experienced depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, addictions, problem behaviors, hating myself and then… finally, understanding and healing. With help. I know how hard it can be, when you feel deeply alone, sad, ashamed or guilty and you can’t see a way past your past.

What can I do for you?

Clients have talked about being down there in ‘the pit’, not being able to see any light, but then someone throws down some tools and materials, we make a plan to build a ladder, and with support and encouragement, you get yourself out of that pit. I know how to be that helping hand you need. I’ve helped others. Nobody deserves to keep suffering. So much can change for the better.

What makes me qualified?

My Approach
The human body holds our anxiety, trauma, depression... our suffering. I have nearly 20 years of coaching experience helping clients understand their mind-body connection. Becoming a certified clinical counsellor has given me the added expertise to really help those with trauma, and the problems that disguise it, such as depression, anxiety, and addictions. My approach is tailored to your needs. I use the tools of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. I practice and teach mindfulness and acceptance.
Who am I?
I live in the fairly quiet seaside town of Sidney, on Vancouver Island. I am a mother of two, and I have close ties with the community, having volunteered in many roles as my sons were growing up, including Breakfast Club Coordinator at the high school, and serving 8 years with the Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue. I love my gym time and have found that exercise and weight training are, for me, a foundation of healthy living and mental wellness. I practice mindfulness and acceptance. I recognize that life involves suffering and joy.
In my free time I love playing recreational pickleball, kayaking the Gulf Island waters and hiking through the giant Douglas Fir, Arbutus and Garry Oak forests of Southern Vancouver Island. Mental wellness for me, means hope.
Let me help you regain your hope.
