Power of Inner Guidance by Dr. Pam Garcy

When you are suffering, some of the questions that may run through your mind as you look for a therapist could include:  (1) Who is Dr. Garcy & is she competent to help? (2) Can Dr. Garcy help me?  (3)  What benefits can I expect from therapy?  I'll answer these below.

(1) Who is Dr. Garcy & is she competent to help? I am a clinical psychologist who has been in private practice in Dallas since 1996.  I've worked hard to develop my skills and knowledge so as to be of service to you.

Training & Contributions:  I graduated Cum Laude from Rice with my BA & with a 3.7 GPA from UT Southwestern Medical Center's Clinical Psychology program.  I teach graduate courses to students who are becoming psychologists, train other therapists at times, and have served on academic faculty at local universities.  I have written 3 books and contributed to several others (see books & listen to free podcasts of me on my site http://www.myinnerguide.com).

Methods:  I primarily use methods that have been scientifically researched and found to benefit people with the types of problems I've been trained to help (such as REBT and CBT methods). However, we will work together to find what seems to work best for you.   You can get to know me by visiting one of the meetup groups I run, reading my blog, or setting up a first appointment.

Personal life:  I have been married 23 years and we have 3 children, from school aged to teen. Professionally, I enjoy helping people to understand their experience and grow from it.

(2) Can Dr. Garcy help me?   Often, if you've read to this point in the profile, it is because there is something drawing you to my profile that suggests that the answer is probably yes.  However, to be conservative, before I answer this, we will meet and talk about your situation and what you want from therapy.

What happens in the first meeting?  During this meeting, I will tell you exactly how I think I can help you to reach your goals.  Remember that in therapy, it is a partnership between you and the therapist.  We will be a team, working together to solve your problems (or help you cope with them) and move you more easily toward your goals. If I think that I am not the person best equipped to help you, I will let you know and try to help you find someone who is better suited.  However, if you are suffering from the conditions checked on this page, I may be able to share some things with you that you find really helpful.

(3) What benefits can I expect?   If you come to therapy with self-honesty, an open mind, and a willingness to test out new ideas between our sessions, then you are quite likely to benefit.  Benefits include experiences of relief from symptoms, a new way of looking at things, a fresh and possibly more understanding approach to viewing yourself,  improved self-acceptance/other-acceptance/life-acceptance, development of new coping skills and strategies, and enhanced movement in the direction of your goals/values/passions.

So, why wait?  Give me a call and let's set up your first appointment!
