The BIO of Sherri Scott-Berner

Sherri works as a Psychological Cognitive Behavior Therapist who also works in the modalities of DBT, Gestalt (Psycho Drama), Psychoanalytical, Person Centered, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Certified
Life Coach

Her Style:
It is not uncommon to be welcomed by Sherri sporting blue jeans, bare feet, and a steaming pot of hot tea - clearly coming off more like the "girl next door" than your typical stereo-typed therapist. She is very upfront and to the point, but very compassionate. However, don’t let that all fool you - she still means business, and she gives out the homework to prove it.

Who She Works With:

Her Specialties:
Sherri specializes in both regular and “last chance” marital cases as well as working with individual clients suffering with Depression, Anxiety, Fear, Anger, Life Decisions, Empty Nest Syndrome, Autism, ADHD, Personality Disorders, Career Adjustments, and Parenting Issues. She is also a certified Life Coach.

(Sherri) "We don't just talk about it" is my slogan. You can even see it written on my truck if you catch me out and about town. I want couples out there, (especially the men out there), to know that my counselling style is a "fix-it" style. I don't spend endless hours hashing over each emotionally charged story of your married or single life; instead, we look at where you are, where you wish to be, and from there, "we" can devise a plan of how to get there.

Sherri's Private Practice is located in the South Surrey/ White Rock BC area in a comfortable and unassuming private setting. She keeps her address unpublicized due to the discretion needed for the physical and social safety of her clients. An address of course will be given to clients upon booking a session.

Sherri, is firstly a wife and mother of two successful young adults.

She and her husband have owned, for 6 years, one of the first Christian Internet Counselling Websites in North America that concentrates on helping married couples who feel either the passion/intimacy or friendship in their marriage has diminished; or those who are hoping to awaken passion or friendship that has never been there from the start.

With an accompanying degree as a Paralegal, and graduating with ‘Highest Honors', Sherri has expert experience
on the destructiveness of divorce, and uses an upfront and casual counselling style to help steer couples in the direction of healing their marriages in a proactive fashion.

Producing, directing and acting, remains close to Sherri’s heart, which she demonstrates by working with community adult and children’s theater, an experience that she uses to facilitate Psychodrama Therapy and Group Therapy.

Sherri has also worked as a Youth Leader, helping to lead programs, activities and addressing many emotional topics plaguing young teens today which include: parental problems, premarital sex, rape, teen pregnancy, pornography, a lack of initiative, drugs & drinking, addictions, suicide, school pressures, employment/career planning, personality testing, and peer relationships.

These related attributes help Sherri holistically work with couples, adult individuals and youth, in many different counselling arenas with her Cognitive/Behavioral approach; thus assisting her clients to move onto more successful, meaningful marriages, relationships and lives, in as short as ‘six’ sessions, or ‘one’ of her weekend “Intensive Workshops”.

(Sherri) ”I have worked for 10 years now with many couples who are struggling in their marriages; whether there has been infidelity, a breach of trust, or sexual incompatibility. With the negative influences of the Internet and TV on our society, monogamous couples are the perfect targets to be affected by destructive forces. "Unfortunately there is not much help out there for couples who are suffering from the relational setbacks of pornography, or issues from sexual trauma stemming from childhood and young adulthood experiences; issues that still negatively affect their marriages today."

(Sherri) "I have lived a life full of experiences, and have had no lack of struggles myself. Being a survivor of these situations, gives me an edge in helping others. I'm not just a therapist with book knowledge, in many cases I may have even walked in my client's shoes."

"I feel WITH my clients and believe that may be what sets me apart from other professionals at times, I truly and sincerely want to see them succeed in their lives and hope to be the one to catapult them into that much needed direction of healing."

I am excited to be able to offer both psychiatric Dog-Assisted Therapy, and Therapeutic Puppy Therapy. For those of you who prefer cats, Talouze offers her love and cuddles if requested.

Target, our Psychiatric Dog, is an adult Bordernese (Bernese Mountain Dog/ Border Collie mix) dog with a heart of gold. He's so easy to fall in love with, especially when he looks so deeply into your eyes as though he knows all the pain you may be harboring.

He is usually in every session unless specified prior to your booked session time. He is used mainly for my clients with PTSD or, and anxiety/grief, as well as children.

Fletcha, is a puppy that we rescued from Puerto Vallarta Mexico. He is presently doing his training to be a Therapy Dog and possibly, if he shows the ability, a future Psychiatric Dog too.

Being still a pup, Fletcha can sometimes be a distraction during therapy sessions, because he may be playing, chewing on one of his toys, or just being cute. So, if you're easily distracted, please let me know when you book your session, that you would like a session with him not present.

Overall, both of these sweet dogs add an added benefit to your counseling session; they can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and playfulness, and even improve your cardiovascular health. Research has revealed that just petting a dog for 15 minutes can lower blood pressure by 10%. Spending time with your four-legged friend releases serotonin, oxytocin, prolactin and even lowers the stress hormone cortisol.

"My desire is to provide my clients with hands-on Cognitive/Behavioral type therapy, (whether in private practice, group setting, or in a semi- seminar type environment). I want to help them achieve important techniques to better understand themselves, cope with life safely and effectively, improve communication to safeguard their lives in all arenas. I want them to be able to face their fear and pain, as well as deal with possibly abusive, or sexual issues and questions that the majority of individuals don’t feel comfortable discussing with their doctor, their friends or family, their spouse, or their pastor. "Most importantly, my goal is to create an atmosphere that is comfortable, and a relationship between myself and my client that allows them to share safely without fear of judgment."
