I believe that therapy is most effective when it is built on a foundation of mutual trust, understanding and connection. Among the benefits of this kind of therapeutic relationship is the experience of being truly seen, heard and understood, perhaps for the first time.

MY APPROACH

Our work together will be a joint endeavor to understand your present difficulties and find a path toward greater ease, satisfaction, and meaning in life.

Toward this end, we will form a trusting relationship over time, dig deep, and make sense of what we discover. It will be serious business -- because your struggles deserve to be taken seriously — but it will not only be serious. There will also be room for laughter and the celebration of victories, large and small. Learning self-compassion and mindfulness will be part of the process.

 BENEFITS

Improved Coping

I will teach you coping skills that will help you manage feelings and behaviors that are causing emotional pain or interfering with functioning. These include:

  • Calming and grounding practices
  • Self-compassion techniques
  • Perspective-taking
  • Effective ways of communicating your feelings and needs

Improved Self-understanding

By exploring your thoughts, feelings and beliefs in depth, together with me, you will come to see yourself more clearly and begin to differentiate between your true self and the person that family and society said you should be. Over time, this can bring relief from your symptoms and better functioning.

Transformative Change

If therapy goes well and you stick with it, you can expect to work through some, or many, of the negative feelings and beliefs that underlie your suffering and struggles -- and in working through them find self-acceptance and appreciation, growth, and meaning in life.

WHO I HELP

I work with adults of all ages, backgrounds and identities and help with a wide range of issues. Here are some examples:

  • Feeling stuck
  • Feeling “different”
  • Feeling you don't matter
  • Feeling you're too much
  • Difficulties with relationships
  • Difficulties with sex
  • Difficulties with work
  • Identity confusion
  • Panic
  • Compulsions
  • Self-doubt
  • Self-consciousness
  • Shame
  • Perfectionism
  • Lack of control
  • Detachment
  • No motivation and wondering, “what’s the point?”

People struggle with all sorts of issues. Some hide their struggles, and some aren’t even aware of them, but problems with living are part of being human.

Whatever issues you bring are welcome.

ABOUT ME

After many years in theater and design, I discovered my calling as a psychotherapist. The type of therapy I do is psychodynamic, relational and trauma-informed. It also includes mindfulness and somatic work. I will be offering EMDR for trauma beginning in June 2024.

In addition to my private practice and the group practice I belong to, I have experience working in a mental health clinic and counseling homebound Holocaust survivors. As a hospital therapist, I have treated survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence.

My education includes post-graduate training in psychodynamic therapy from the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy, and in trauma from the National Institute for the Psychotherapies.

I also bring personal lived experience to my practice.

As a person, I am warm, open and genuine. My approach to therapy is collaborative.
