Hi!  My name is Wendy, and I work with individuals, couples, families and groups to improve their lives and relationships.  Here's how it works:

-Individually-  with gentleness and compassion, I help you figure out goals to improve whatever is difficult or blocking you from happiness in your life.  That could be issues within yourself, with another person, or from your past.  I will develop a treatment plan with you that will bring forth growth and increased happiness and peace.

-Couples therapy- I help to facilitate better communication and get to the root of the troubles you are experiencing together.  Increasing this communication can remove blockages to intimacy, and improve overall happiness in  your relationship.  Sometimes having the safety of a therapy office, and an unbiased third person involved, can allow each partner to open up and work on a deeper level of understanding.

- Family therapy-  Having the support of a non-biased therapist can help to identify areas of communication that need support and improvement, and can bring everyone closer together.  I have experience helping parents and partners of transgender individuals to cope and support their transitioning loved one.

-Groups-  As the need arises, I like to hold groups to increase support and understanding with others.  Being with people in the same or similar situation can speed up the healing process of therapy, and strengthen your sense of community.

-My approach to therapy is largely cognitive-behavioral.  This type of therapy focuses on how your thoughts and behaviors are connected and affect each other.  Sometimes by changing one or the other, you see a shift in how you feel or function.  I am also largely supportive in my approach to therapy.  I see myself as someone to comfort, advise, encourage, reassure and listen to you.  Sometimes, this is all that is needed for someone to see their problems in a different light and start to make change.

-My experience:  I graduated in 1999 from California State University, Long Beach, with a Master's in Social Work.    Since then, I have worked in hospitals, schools and county mental health, providing individual, couples, group and family therapy.  I took several years off to have children and raise a family.  Last year, I began private practice therapy in Simi Valley.

-My passion:  I have found that helping others to feel better and shift their experience is one of my greatest joys!  Collaborating with others to become their true selves brings me a sense of happiness that words cannot explain.  I feel honored to partner up with someone that is ready to grow and that allows me to witness their process.

I have helped many people exploring their gender identity.  I have a lot of experience, both professionally and personally, advocating and helping transgender individuals.  I am an LGBTQIA advocate, and believe that we all deserve the same respect, love and happiness.

I look forward to hearing from you and working together to make things better!
