Family dynamics can be very complex. Each member can see things from their own perspective and the need for respect within families is immensely important. Each person needs to have a voice and a choice to speak their mind in a therapeutic setting. It is my honor to do my best to help your family resolve issues, deal with crisis and secrets or just get along better and happier now and in the future.

Family therapy is an area that I am passionate about. I feel that most of our issues can find its root in our family of origin. Everyone wants to be heard, and everyone wants to be valued. However, no one is being heard or valued, because we are all speaking so loudly that we can only hear ourselves. Sometimes we need an outsiders perspective to help us each other. I greatly desire to help your family be as healthy as it can be.

We are all created for relationships. Relationships bring the greatest joy and the greatest pain in life. Every relationship and family unit looks different and has unique strengths and challenges which create the ups and downs in families. From the age of 4 or 5 years old, a child already knows the "behavior" he/she must exhibit in a family unit. At age 4 or 5 or before, a child will enter the child care and or educational system. Through elementary, middle school, college / trade school, OJT, etc, we live in "required behavior." Often when an adult arrives "home," the "behaviors" may revert back to "childish behavior because of childhood beliefs." Are you ready to look at this?

Most family therapists inadvertently create more chaos through their well-intentioned efforts to assist a family move through a change process. Why? Brains are inherently deregulated (all of us, may I add) and most talking and dialoguing misses brain-centric problems that need more intensive help. Jennifer encourages families to bring all family members to therapy sessions. It is helpful to meet all members and hear each person's input on what the problem(s) may be from their individual perspective. Even young children have thoughts on how the family can be better. Jennifer is open to seeing family members on an individual basis in order to facilitate the freedom to speak honestly about how they are feeling.

Communication barriers within families of addicts may cause the addict to withdraw into isolation, leaving their family members feeling frustrated, ashamed, lonely, fearful, depressed, hopeless and angry. Given the wide variety of family issues I have encountered over the years, I have adopted an integrated therapeutic approach. Hence, clients will receive general psychoeducation in a number of areas including: values discovery, parenting, interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, boundary setting, sibling rivalry, mutual respect and accountability to mention a view. As your "group therapy leader," session time will be effectively managed. Role-plays will be utilized extensively to allow for relative freedom of expression. In addition, homework assignments are a prominent and prevalent component to our intervention strategy. Finally, priority is given to confidentiality and trust.

In my years of practice I have been trained in Functional Family Therapy and have worked with many families suffering from conflict within their environment. I now use this training with my own therapy practice to establish healthy communication skills and coping skills between the family and create a strong foundation. I will gain a better understanding of the dynamics in the household and will work with each member to resolve issues. Each individual will benefit by achieving personal growth and utilizing this in their daily interactions.
