I enjoy helping families restore broken communication and emotional disconnection that can threaten the family cohesiveness . I believe the ultimate goal of family therapy is to tightened the family bond by helping each member of the family gain insight into their impact and influence on the family unit as a whole. Finally, my goal is to help families maintain healthy marital relationships, increase parental management skills and resolve sibling relational issues.

Most families are simply not like the Brady Bunch. There are different personalities all trying to get along and sometimes that is easier than it looks. Beyond just the difficulties that can arise from unique people trying to co-exist can be problems such as substance abuse and divorce. Family therapy can be quite successful in bringing the members of a family back in harmony. Call me today to get your family started.

I can offer you help with your children who are dealing with disabilities or emotional problems. I was a special education teacher for many years. Families can experience any stressful events that take a toll on the family unit, such as financial issues, divorce/remarriage, or the death of a loved one. In addition, other mental health concerns can impact the family as a whole, such as depression, substance abuse, chronic illness, communication issues/conflict, or behavioral problems in children and adolescents. Family Therapy aims to promote understanding and collaboration among family members in order to solve the problems of one or more individuals.

Family therapy is most beneficial when the problems you are facing are relational. Do you constantly argue with your teenage son? Do you feel like your in-laws do not respect your boundaries? Are family alliances splitting your family? Are you burdened by caring for an elderly parent? Does every discussion end with a fight? In family therapy we can clarify the rules and the roles in the family, help you put and maintain healthy boundaries, redivide tasks and improve communication among family members. At the end of therapy, family members will walk away feeling heard and supported, knowing that the family is their safe haven, a place where they can be themselves and feel accepted and loved.

Family systems have a huge impact on our life. There has always been the argument between nature and nurture as to the cause of any emotional issues we face. The reality is there is some of both involved. It is usually the client who comes in for the counseling but a lot of the solution is found in the family system. Many influences and issues are passed through generations of a family. Therefore there are times when it is profitable to work with the entire family in counseling. Although we are not committed to solely a family systems approach to counseling we do recognize the need to address family issues that are often personified in the member with the perceived problem.
