One of the compelling reasons I ended up working with marriages is because I helped a young man in my church dedicate himself to God and really turn his life around and he went home and his step-father picked a fight with him and his mom called the police and the police hauled this kid away! I realized then, if I wan to help children and families, I need to help mom and dad. I believe husbands and wives and marriages are the foundation of society and I am an expert in helping those couples thrive in their relationships, so they can be a blessing to their families. A healthy marriage is a huge benefit to the children in the family. It gives security, safety, love, and healthy boundaries. I work to help the family by first working on the marriage. I can help with communication, parenting/step-parenting, stress management, problem solving, and affection. I can help empower the parents to be strong and yet loving. I do not work with the children directly.

Family therapy deals with problems with a family functioning as a system. The image is much like that of a on of the body systems, ie. blood or nervous systems. Every family has certain tasks and family therapy deals with the problems that can surface when parts of a family are not operating as a functional system. There are many variables in a functional family, however,dysfunction in one variable will affect the entire family.
