Family relationships and dynamics can be messy. Through therapy you will develop skills to better understand your family members and treat eachother with love and respect. Healthy communication skills will be developed and active listening will be practiced. Family members will gain a better understanding of eachother and interact with compassion and empathy.

Family Therapy is crucial in helping families improve their communication with one another. My goal for family therapy is to create a safe and respectful atmosphere for all members to feel heard. Active listening exercises and activities are strategically used to help better bridge family members together. My goal is for each family member to have a voice and participate in their therapy.

As a family unit, working through conflicts and disagreements can be a challenge. Not everyone has the same perspective or viewpoint on a given scenario. Communication is key, but only if it is within a healthy environment where those involved are willing to listen to the other's perspective with an open mind. Sometimes a mediator is required to help guide the discussion in a more positive/respectful light.

Family therapy is complex nowadays exacerbated by high divorce rates and blended families. There's an necessary built-in awareness and empathy that has to exist in order to help these families. It requires more than knowledge and understanding, but rather an ability to read, interpret and redirect not one individual but an entire group of individuals who are invested in each other and needing insight, guidance and intervention. My greatest desire and joy is to meet with families who want to learn how to communicate better in the home, to listen to each other, respect each other and in short, to get along well. I counsel from my belief that the mother and father are the leaders of their family. However, I treat each individual family member with the respect they deserve, and by listening to and addressing each family member's issues within the family. I used Person-Centered, Family Systems and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in working with families, because I believe these counseling theories work best in the 'real world' where families really live, dealing with REAL problems in getting along with each other.
