I believe that people seek counseling because they want something to be different in their lives and that the client has the ability to make those changes happen.  In the counseling process, clients can be helped to understand themselves better, set personal goals, and be supported in the course of this development.  I believe counseling can be beneficial for a holistic, healthy life, which includes physically, emotionally and spiritually.  My practice is a place where you can find your voice and the freedom to express your thoughts and emotions.  A place where you can deepen your relationship with yourself and others, and a place where you can heal past traumas and navigate present challenges.
My approach to treatment is collaborative and see it as a chance for clients to see themselves as experts in their own lives.    I believe the therapeutic relationship is the most important thing in the counseling process and the key to a successful outcome. It is a genuine partnership where the client is never alone as they are being supported and validated throughout.   I am passionate about helping others discover their potential, finding self-efficacy, and empowering clients to direct positive change in their lives.
I work with children, adolescents, individuals and their families and use a variety of methods to fit each individual's needs.  I love working with all kinds of people, but my ideal clients are teenagers and young adults who are going through personal struggles of insecurity and identity and would like help to discover their potential and increase their self-esteem while navigating this significant and impactful stage of life.  I have been a middle and high school teacher, working with a wide range of students with various educational needs in the area of Special Education.  I did my counseling internship and held prior employment as a counselor at a residential home for at-risk and pregnant/parenting adolescent girls.
I hold a graduate degree in counseling from George Fox University, received in 2014.  In addition, I hold a Master of Science in Special Education from Portland State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Social and Behavioral Studies from George Fox University.   My coursework in counseling has included family and marriage therapy, human growth and development, group theory and therapy, human sexuality, emotion focused therapy, career development and psychopathology.
