Duanita is a registered clinical social worker, a registered art therapist, a philosopher of consciousness studies, a published author, a professional supervisor, an educator and a mentor for helping professionals and artists who want to learn more about the business side of their private practices.
Duanita works with individuals, couples, families and groups of all ages. Her theoretical approach is eclectic and she draws on elements from the humanistic, cognitive/behavioral, psychodynamic, and transpersonal schools of thought depending on the situation and issues you are dealing with.
Duanita specializes in helping you deal with:
- trauma (sexual abuse/assault; accidents; illness)
- loss (death, divorce, life transitions; job displacement; career changes)
- mental health issues (anxiety, depression, PTSD, addictions)
- private practice business issues
Because Duanita is skilled with verbal counselling as well as non-verbal counselling through art therapy, play therapy and sandtray work, she is able to assist you to find creative ways to explore solutions to your life challenges.
In her studio you will meet her two canine co-therapists. Nikki is a Jack Russell crossed with a Chihuahua who specializes in bringing joy to people quicker than any human can. Angel is a golden retriever who is a retired Seeing Eye dog. Her specialty is love; in fact, many people agree that she is love incarnate. Together Nikki and Angel help with the emotional context of the environment bringing healing energy in their greets, their hugs, their play and their presence.
Duanita provides supervision for art therapy graduates as well as consultation and mentorship services for counsellors who want to learn more about the business aspects of their private practice. She provides a variety of mentorship opportunities for counsellors through the Mindful Mentorship Community which is open to anyone who is interested.
As an educator, Duanita teaches counselling students in her role as adjunct instructor at the Adler School of Professional Psychology. She also serves as an Advisory Committee Member for the Media and Communications Degree at University Canada West.
Duanita’s book Become the Change: Acting with Intention, was voted to the top 10% internationally in the 2010 Next Top Spiritual Author competition. It is based on her PhD dissertation, The Role of the Arts in Shifting Consciousness, which explores how film and the theatre can assist the shift in collective consciousness from the current dominant worldview, sometimes referred to as ‘scientific materialism’ to a worldview which incorporates soul and spirit and a deep respect for the mysteries of life.
Duanita is co-creator of the Mentoring Store, which provides products, services, resources and community related to mentoring. All products and services are based on partnership with Creative Source energy, new sciences, spirituality, transpersonal psychology and philosophy of consciousness studies. Through the online media, she serves the community through her podcasts, blog and by providing special events.
Duanita moves through life with the intention of inspiring transformative changes of heart in her clients, students and mentees. The most common words people use to describe their work with her include ‘inspiring’ and ‘epihany’.
