HELPING YOU FIND HOPE AND A FUTURE
I was born to a very young Catholic couple. My father struggled with addictions. Though always at the top of my classes in school, I became involved with a mentally and physically abusive drug-dealer and alcohol addict. I received an undergrad degree at 21 and became a Christian before marrying. Two of my three children were born with Spina Bifida, a birth defect that causes paralysis and learning difficulties. In this way I entered life with disabilities, championing the vulnerable in hospitals, schools and work places and counselling their parents. During this time I took a job in government with an abusive supervisor and, once again, experienced the trauma of addiction in my family. My self-esteem, already crushed from feeling responsible for bearing children with permanent disabilities, took an even greater hit. I was diagnosed with a life-threatening autoimmune disorder and hospitalized with mysterious weight loss and infections, coming near death.
As my husband and I fought for our marriage, I realized our brokenness and surrendered to God’s grace. He brought me out of deep depression, making me aware that I could help the hurting people around me. I became a counsellor.
Are you struggling? Do you have recurring thoughts about being used or abused in the past? Is it affecting your mind or body or sleep? Is it impossible to look past your rage or fear?
Has another’s sex life caused you pain? Today some children are being exposed to pornography by the age of 5. Porn addiction and sex addiction are so powerful that they can torpedo relationships far into the future. Sexting, hookups, using prostitutes, sexual abuse, lying, sex trafficking and extra-marital affairs are the results. Men and women of all ages, income levels and careers, including ministers, are caught. Perhaps you are afraid that your partner will find out, or you are the one who has just found out your partner cheated.
Maybe as a child or teenager, you were molested or raped and did not know who to tell or how to say it. Possibly someone told you that no one would believe you, or that your family, church, school or workplace could never recover if you tell.
Do you or your partner feel out of control without knowing why? Do you or your partner have addictions to drugs, sex, relationships, alcohol, gambling, food, tobacco or the internet? Do you have anorexia, bulimia, personality disorders, anxiety, anger or depression that baffle you? Is your relationship or family struggling? Perhaps you are wondering what can or should be done.
