Prior to becoming an LPC with a Master's degree from Northwest Nazarene University, I spent nearly twenty years as a classroom teacher. As much as I loved education, I feel my job now is even more fulfilling. I thoroughly enjoy counseling individuals one on one as well as couples. Teaching had its advantages, but I find counseling more rewarding on personal level. I both embrace and am forever humbled by the stories I hear from my clients. I have worked with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, substance abuse, addiction, blending families and a myriad of other problems. Additionally, I work with couples working through various problems and conflicts in their relationships. I have facilitated groups for individuals who experienced childhood sexual abuse as well as those coping with divorce.

Because I have experienced divorce first hand, I believe I bring valuable knowledge working with clients who are coping with divorce. I have now remarried and my husband and I blended families, which is challenging for even the most prepared couple! I truly believe that having inner knowledge in this area helps me to connect with clients having similar experiences. Divorce is a very personal, and most often an incredibly painful experience. Having facilitated divorce groups has given me even more experience of the various components people navigate through the divorce process as well as its after components.

In addition to working with clients navigating the divorce and/or separation process, I have spent well over 1,000 counseling hours working with individuals with substance abuse and addiction. Changing the methods we traditionally utilize with recovery from substance abuse has become a personal mission for me. I do not believe in the “one size fits all” approach that is so frequently utilized. I discovered SMART Recovery nearly two years ago and have experienced great success when I combine the tools from SMART with individual counseling. Addiction is very personal and that’s how I approach it. I believe in getting to the root of the problem and letting individuals decide for themselves that they would not only benefit from giving up their addiction, but possess the ability to do so as well.

I am a Michigan native and received my bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University. I have lived in Chicago, Richmond, Virginia, and Spokane, Washington prior to moving to Boise in 1999. I enjoyed the various places I have lived, but Idaho is “home” to me now. I enjoy the climate and the people, but my true love is traveling to warm climates to scuba dive.
