Counseling in Portland for Anxiety, Depression, and Relationship Problems

My focus is working with anxiety, depression, and relationship problems. If you relate to any of the statements below, my approach is likely a good fit for you:

  • I feel stressed and overwhelmed by all of my worries.
  • I’m regularly anxious and experience panic attacks.
  • I chronically feel sad, empty, and stuck in my life; I no longer enjoy the things that I used to.
  • I’m really uncomfortable in social situations –I avoid them when I can. My fears get in the way of me living my life.
  • I’ve experienced a trauma or abuse that I have not been able to move beyond.
  • I’m afraid to open up and let myself love out of fear of being hurt, abandoned, or rejected.
  • I avoid uncomfortable feelings with alcohol/drugs/food/sex/relationships, etc.
  • I lack confidence and self-esteem – it’s difficult to assert or stand up for myself.

Difficult past experiences , referred to as “traumas,” are often the underlying source of the above issues. Traumatic experiences can include significant events, such as abuse, grief/loss, emotional pain, significant separations, accidents, violence, disasters, and injuries. Or, trauma can refer to more subtle, but ongoing patterns, such as feeling criticized, humiliated, abandoned, betrayed, shamed, experiencing family conflict, or growing up with an alcoholic or addict.

There are 3 key elements to my approach:

1. Utilize very effective trauma processing techniques to resolve the emotional pain that continues to trigger your anxiety, depression, and relationship problems.

2. Transform the negative thinking that is a significant source of your anxiety, depression, and relationship problems.

3. Develop new skills to help you manage and overcome the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and relationship problems.

Imagine how good you will feel when you no longer have to spend energy on past unresolved issues that trigger unnecessary stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship problems. The goal of my counseling approach is to help you put the past in the past so that you can live in the present as the most emotionally mature, happy, fulfilled, and empowered person that you can be.

My counseling style is warm, caring and supportive, yet focused, structured, and results-oriented. Common goals of the type of counseling work that I do include:

  • Feeling more calm, centered, and grounded
  • Developing a positive outlook on life
  • Feeling free of fears, phobias, panic, and social anxiety
  • Experiencing a greater sense of confidence and empowerment
  • Overcoming addictive and compulsive behaviors
  • Experiencing more fulfilling relationships
  • Feeling more present centered; less emotionally reactive
