Kalpana Murthy, MBA, MS, NCC, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified EMDR Therapist
Location of Therapist: Atlanta, GA
Anger is a signal telling you that someone is not treating you well or that something is not right. The goal is NOT to never get angry. My approach is to help you understand why certain people or situations trigger your anger, identify and desensitize the root cause of those triggers. Upsetting experiences from childhood where we felt shamed, criticized, powerless, not listened to, ignored, not good enough or not valued, can trigger anger in present day situations. My approach incorporates EMDR Therapy, conflict management skills, and empathetic talk therapy to heal from relational trauma that is often at the root of anger. I welcome a call from you to discuss your situation.

Do you have difficulty controlling your temper? Do you lack a sense of inner peace? Anger is a healthy emotion, but when it gets out of control, it can become toxic. It destroys your work day; it hurts your relationships with the people you care about, and most importantly ~ it hurts you. Utilizing cognitive-based mindfulness strategies, I can help you learn how to modulate the thoughts and emotions that cause your anger, discover its roots, and help you live your life from a place of balance and authenticity.
Dr. Kevin Fleming, Ph.D.
Location: , Atlanta
Grey Matters International and the work of Kevin J. Fleming, Ph.D approaches issues of anger management in a very humane yet fresh perspective. You see, anger is a normal emotion but it is the valence (intensity) as well as the coupling choice of what one does with this that is the problem. Telling someone to "not" do it or modifying behavior with a trite psychological plan that only breeds a compliant response is not the way to change anger. Brainwave optimization is a new cutting edge technology that allows one to rewire circuitry responsible for reactivity driving the anger. My approach to anger management is using CBT with clients to explore situation that trigger negative impulsive reactions. The client becomes more aware of themselves, learn to cope with those situations to become more positive in decision making. The clients will also understand how to change negative impulses for positive more productive reactions.

Very often people find that their angry outbursts surprise them (and those around them). This occurs most often because we haven't dealt with the real source of the anger. Clients often try to convince themselves that they are "over it" or that "it doesn't matter" when, in fact, they aren't over it and it does matter. I see this quite a lot in women - who tend to be socialize not to show anger. Therefore it leaks out in more passive aggressive and subtle ways. It's still anger - but it can be inflicted on herself or the true reason for the anger can be veiled making it difficult for others to figure how why there is an outburst.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

If you find yourself feeling unusually angry at your partner, or feeling angry much of the time toward several other people, I can help you get to the bottom of your stewing anger. I can help you understand the reaction in the brain that makes you want to fight, as well as how sweeping it under the rug leads to blowing up. I can teach you ways to interrupt your anger before it builds and to express it in appropriate ways so that you can improve your relationships with others instead of damage them with anger.
If you have been engaging in physically abusive/aggressive behavior, please seek help from a Family Violence Intervention Program.

Anger is a natural emotion in response in many situations. However, when anger becomes problematic in its expression, intensity, frequency or duration treatment is needed. Oftentimes the primary cause of destructive anger patterns lies with cognitive processing, faulty interpretations, aversive triggers, and neural circuits that "pre-wired" for anger. As clients learn how how to more accurately/realistically interpret situations, develop effective coping & self-soothing skills, and keep the focus on managing their own behavior, they will develop more constructive ways to handle their anger that will lead to more fulfilling interpersonal relationships in all areas of their lives.

Anger impacts all relationships, especially the ones that mean the most to us. Why do we became particularly enraged at the ones we love most? Primarily because those whom we love are the ones we tend to have high expectations around. At Trinity, we use the five step process in anger management. We begin with an assessment, identify individual strengths and weaknesses, lay out a plan of action, eliminate old tapes, and build toward a better future. All of this is accomplished while working to improve relationships. Call Dr. Bob Montes for an appointment today.
