The very best of couples will face tough times that can pull you closer together and increase your faith or times that one or both pull away and put up walls. Couples before and after marriage bring their own "stuff, baggage" to the relationship based on the family each grew up including how their caregivers commnicated, functioned/disfunstions, and traditions. In counseling we work to come to a better understanding of you and of each other. We might look at core fears, insecurities, trust issues, infidelity, distractions, values, spiritual beliefs and more. We work together to help you develop self-care and to build a safe environment, emotionally and physically, for your life together.

My passion is to help married couples, blended families and coparents grow. I believe that in all of these situations that the struggle and pain can be a teacher to help us grow in ways happiness and contentment cannot teach. It is through desperation that we reach out for a guide to help pull us through the murky waters of this struggle. I desire to be this guide for families. This struggle is often messy, awkward and hard. There is no easy path. But it can be so fulfilling in the end, you will end up thanking the struggle and pain for their gift. That is my ultimate goal!

Couples therapy involves an initial assessment of the relationship. Identification of common strengths and areas needing attention are identified through an assessment process. The couple will work together, but also meet at least once with me to provide individual family history and background information. Couples will be provided with communication tools and will role play discussion and disagreements during therapy sessions. Couples will also learn to identify warning signs of emotion flooding and will be given tools and strategies to avoid unhealthy argument patterns. Couples will learn communication strategies that will facilitate healthy discussions now and throughout the relationship.
