I believe regardless of individual, couples or group modalities each person brings their family into their appointments. Family systems (styles of interaction) can be flexible, stable, chaotic and rigid depending on the family you were raised in. Regardless understanding why and how you do what you do (ie where you come from and generational strengths and weaknesses better serves you in your relationships across the lifespan.

Sometimes even adult family members find that they have difficulty getting along and communicating. Not having a "bag of communication tools," they do not know how to navigate the waters of disagreements, different perfectives, and relational components. Having someone outside the family circle can provide a safe environment to begin to deal with those difficulties.
