When one person is experiencing stress, it affects the entire family system. Family relationships are an important part of your emotional and psychological health and development. Even when the issues is an "individual problem," often times involving the family can facilitate the healing and lead to life long change and development. Rather than power and control, I focus on communication and emotional attachment.

We know that healing occurs in the family and that when you only work with one part of the family it is hard to create lasting change. One of the keys is to get everyone on board speaking the same language and communicating in ways that support each other and build on the strengths that are already existing in the family unit opposed to one person being the "problem".

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy within the family context. I believe our thoughts leads to our feelings, thus influencing our behavior patterns/communication towards other family members. I also utilize Dialectical Behavior Therapy given it's large emphasis on validating multiple feelings and experiences at a time, which is important to make space for given the variety of people making up the family unit.

Dr. Keller utilizes family therapy when appropriate. In working with children and teens, dysfunctional family dynamics are a major contributing factor in the development of symptoms of anxiety, depression,substance abuse, and academic underachievment. Improving empathic communication within the family system can play an important role in the treatment of a variety of psychological conditions. There are many reasons why families reach out for help such as conflicts stemming from unresolved issues and problems with communication. In working with families, I help to create healthy boundaries, identify their hurts and model healthy ways of communicating with one another.
