Depression can be mild to severe and can impact every aspect of life - from sleep, to appetite, to relationships, to work, even to the will to live another day. Depression can feel so heavy, as if under too much weight that there's no way out. I work with people to help them find that the way out is possible and attainable. I teach skills in mindfulness and help to create a plan that does not feel too overwhelming. My aim is to help unfold the strength and confidence that gets lost to depression.

In treating mood problems, the most important piece in collaborating is to find rays of hope in your life. What did you love to do before that you no longer enjoy? What are/were your interests in life? Who are the people in your life you want to feel closer to? What are your strengths? How can we interupt habitual feelings of hopelessnes, by changing the way you think about triggers that lead you to depressed feelings? How can we challenge negative or unrealistic thinking? With sensitive, open communication in sessins, we can find answers to these questions that can curtail habitual depressive thought and feelings. Coping skills can be taught and mastered.

Depression should be seen as normal in that all of us experience depression periodically. Too much depression is discouraging and can be treated. Find out of your depression is "normal" or clinically troubling. Relief from depression is available for most depressed persons. Often depressed persons are understimuated with not enough fun or activity. On the other hand depression can be seen as the opposite of "expression" where thoughts, feelings and needs are not sufficiently acknowledge and expressed.
