Marriage and Couples Mental Health in Vallejo
Domestic abuse is an unfortunate reality for many couples and families in the Vallejo area. Approximately 40 percent of women in California will face violence at home at some point in her life. The majority of these women have young children in the home as well.2 As a result, women and children are most often in need of intervention, prevention and support services. Additionally, women and children are more likely to develop depression, anxiety, and PTSD due to abuse in the home. However, access to care and support can be challenging at times.
Families who have adopted a child, want to adopt a child, or want to serve as foster families can find the resources and support they need at Alternative Family Services (AFS). AFS is committed to placing children in the foster care system into permanent homes. The AFS Fost-Adopt program allows individuals and families who want to adopt a child to serve first as a child's foster parent, then once the child is legally free to be adopted, they become a permanent member of the family. Transitional services are offered for youth in the foster care system in order to make the transition into a new home a smooth one. Many other family support services are available. Additional information is available by calling the AFS Vallejo office at 707-648-2000.3
Family Services and Assistance Programs
