Located on the eastern seaboard of Florida in Broward County, Sunrise is a great little city with around 86,000 residents. While the city is smaller, it does host many different corporations such as United Healthcare, Hormel Foods, Air France, Fox Sports Television, Honeywell, and CIT Group, to name a few. There are over 100 corporations located in the city. Besides the businesses, there are many different arts and leisure activities that Sunrise hosts. For instance, there are different sports and park venues, golf courses, pools, a civic center complex, and much more, that is offered for people of all ages, singles and families alike. Some of the parks include City Park, Flamingo Park, Sunrise Golf Village Park, Oscar Wind Park, and the Roller Hockey Complex. At the Roller Hockey Complex, there are tournaments and league play, as well as open skate sessions and different clinics available.1

Spinal cord injuries can be debilitating, and physical pain and mental health challenges associated with them can be difficult to deal with, as well. The Spinal Cord Injury Support Group of Broward County meets at 4399 Nob Hill Road on the first Tuesday of each month, in Sunrise. Meetings can include discussions of topics of interest, guest speakers, and, most importantly, a social atmosphere where those facing the challenges of this type of injury can meet and provide support to one another.2

Vision impairment associated with aging necessitates new ways of dealing with your physical environment, and it also requires helping hands to ensure those transitions are accompanied with good mental health. Homelessness is a social problem, and it requires social solutions. The Broward Partnership is a community non-profit that provides a range of services and coordinates support for people experiencing homelessness, including those in the Sunrise area.
