Relationships are supposed to be one of most fulfilling parts of our lives, but without the proper coping skills and relationship tools they can quickly become stagnant, toxic and highly dysfunctional. This often leads to affairs, substance abuse and other infidelities. The work I do with couples is more of a coaching model in that I work with the couples in my office practicing new, different and effective ways of communication and resolving conflicts. When couples are able to practice these new tools during their counseling sessions, they are more likely to follow-through and use these tools between counseling appointments.

The client is the relationship - not the individuals! So an individual therapist is not the way to go here. This work should focus on what the couple wants for their relationship (sometimes the goal is uncoupling kindly), guiding the couple in healthy growth of the relationship, and all without shame!
